TMA Mondays: Such a Tease
TMA'ed while listening to There Will Be Time by Mumford & Sons
Oh Seattle, why do you play with me so? The weather teased us last week with temperatures in the 80s, but now we are back to 60s and rain. Fortunately, in the food biz things are looking bright. Sea Wolf Bakers will finally be getting a brick and mortar location in Fremont. Bahaus Books and Coffee reopened their Ballard location under new ownership. Their opening was met with a lot of elation from their beloved fans, who were quite upset when all 3 Bahaus locations closed unexpectedly last year. Un Bien has finally opened its second location at Paseo's old spot in Ballard. Paseo and Un Bien are not affiliated, but if you used to drive by Paseo's old location forlornly now you can actually stop and get some Un Bien sandwiches.
Our Pick of the Week
Bluebird Ice Cream, Fremont - If you are trying to expand your ice cream shop repertoire past Molly Moons, there is no better place to do it than at bluebird ice cream. Warm waffle cones and creamy goodness. Check them out at one of their various locations.
Skillet Cookie - Warm cookies from the oven are awesome, warm skillet cookies however taste even better to me. Maybe it's because I can just use a fork and eat it straight from the pan, who knows. This recipe for a brown butter ginger chocolate chip skillet cookie from Food52 will have you putting all etiquette aside.
New Sh*t in Town
Ballard Pizza Company, South Lake Union - You can never have too much pizza and with the addition of ballard pizza company's new location at Amazon's Doppler building, your pizza options just increased. They'll be slinging slices and whole pies. Plus, their happy hour runs from 4pm to 8pm!
Bar Harbor, South Lake Union - Ben Hodgett from Matt's in the Market is bringing us something new this summer, in the form of Bar Harbor. It will be in the 400 Fairview building and will pair Washington seafood specialties with local wine favorites. They are currently scheduled to open in June so expect more updates as time goes by.
Escondite, Capitol Hill - Owners Erin Carnes and Brian Houck pride themselves on providing affordable delicious food. That was their goal when they opened their LA Escondite spot in 2011. Now they've brought that mentality to the PNW and have opened a second Escondite location inside the music venue Chop Suey. They serve a variety of sandwiches and also have gluten-free and vegetarian options. Check them out.
Seattle, What's Happening?
Taco Libre Truck Showdown, 05/01 - It's all going down this weekend in Fremont. There will be over 25 food trucks all competing for Seattle's best taco. If tacos aren't your thing, there are other trucks like Ezell's express and Sam Choy's Poke to the Max to keep you eating all day long. Did I mention its free to attend?
Seattle Beer and Bacon Classic, 05/07 - This is just another reminder that the beer and bacon classic is happening in two weeks. You don’t want to be that person who decides to go last minute only to find out tickets are sold out. Unlimited bacon and beer, what else is there to consider?
