TMA Mondays: Making an Impact

TMA'ed while listening to by My PYT by Wale

Seattle restaurants are making waves. Just last week, two of our restaurants, Bateau and Salare, were included in Eater National's 21 Best New Restaurants in America.

Making waves in a different way, or rather bringing awareness, are Mamnoon owners Racha and Wassef Haroun who will be hosting Tarab for Syria. It will be a two-day series of meals and live music across their four restaurants. All their proceeds will go to the International Rescue Committee for Syrian Refugees.

In unrelated news, there are a bunch of pop-ups that you shouldn’t miss. Also if you’ve been seeing all the Instagram feeds with rolled ice cream and wondering where you can get some in Seattle, check out Susu. They are usually at the SLU Market on Saturday, but their site has their entire schedule.

Our Pick of the Week

Sisters and Brothers, Georgetown - I can confidently say that this is my new favorite fried chicken place in Seattle. Their Nashville hot chicken is actually Hot! Their mac and cheese is creamy. It's a no fuss establishment that's all about the chicken and some of their tables are Pacman machines that you can actually play with.

Raspberry - Apparently today is national raspberry cream pie day. To commemorate, you should try this recipe for Lemon Raspberry Pie hearts by Joy the Baker.

New Sh*t in Town

Manu's Bodegita, Capitol Hill -  Manu has taken over Little Uncle's walk-up window. His bright teal walk-up cabana will be serving breakfast tacos in the mornings, empanadas and sandwiches during lunch and much more.

Paseo, SoDo - There is now more Paseo to go around. The popular Cuban sandwich shop have finally opened their new location in SoDo. Aside from all your favorites that will still be served, they'll all be serving wine and beer!

Ikina Sushi, Capitol Hill - The owner of Gourmet Dog's Hot Dog stand, Shinsuke Nikaido, has opened a new sushi restaurant in cap hill. Based on the over 500 guests they had during the Block party, it seems to be a hit. Their menu includes noodles dishes, small plates and of course, sushi.

Seattle, What's Happening

Seafair Weekend, 08/05 - 08/07 - It's that time of year when you wish you had a friend with a boat. This weekend will be jam-packed with powerboat races, the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels and all sorts of food and activities and Genesee Park.

Pok Pok Vietnamese Wing happy Hour at SLU, 08/05 -  On August 5th from 5pm to 7pm, Whole foods will be serving Pok Pok Vietnamese chicken wings at $6 for 3 wings. You'll also get a chance to meet Andy Ricker (owner of Pok Pok) and get a signed copy of the Pok Pok Cookbook.

Jamaican Feast, 08/07 - Marjorie is having a Jamaican fest! Join them for a dinner that includes Jamaican favorites like jerk chicken, stewed oxtail and more. There will be two seatings at 4pm and 7:30pm. Get your tickets now.
