TMA Mondays: For the Love of Food

TMA'ed while jammin' to Work by Rihanna

As soon as Super Bowl Sunday comes to a close, the football theme is quickly replaced with an explosion of pink, and heart shaped everything. Love makes people do crazy things, and that also applies to what people will do for the love of food.

I guess in Kitty Kafe's case, what people won't do was more the issue. The Kickstarter campaign started last year to raise funds for the café have been scrapped, but owner McRae and her team are still in love with the idea and plan to help Seattle Meowtropolitan succeed. For those who are cat lovers, there is still hope for another cat café opening in Capitol Hill called Neko.

The love for Mama's Mexican Kitchen is dwindling and March 31st will be the last time you can eat an enchilada in the "Elvis Room."  To avoid having the same fate, Nate's Wings and Waffles is going for a new look and a name change to Drae's Lake Route. They will have more comfort food and breakfast options. For those of you who loved the wings and waffles, there will be no love lost because they are still on the menu.

Our Pick of the Week

Rain City Burgers, Greenlake - This spot has one of the best burgers I have had in the rainy city. The fries are Five Guys style, but a whole lot better. The milkshakes are thick with plenty of flavor options to combine. I will be going back ASAP so I can try all their other top rated burgers.

Chocolate - The best thing about Hallmark occasions such as Valentine's day is the chocolate. Buzzfeed knows exactly what I'm talking about with their list of chocolate desserts that make February 14th significant.

New Sh*t In Town

Heartwood Provisions, Downtown - Need a new place for Happy Hour? This new restaurant is opening today and bringing a new concept to how one usually does happy hour. Their menu is full of cocktail and dish pairings, so it's less thinking and more eating and drinking for you.

H-mart, Downtown - Looking for good quality Asian produce that’s also a good price can be hard if you live downtown because International District or Bellevue are just too far to be convenient. Luckily, the H-mart construction plans have been accepted and soon H-mart will be opening where the former Nordstrom Rack on 2nd Ave used to be.

Grappa, Queen Anne - La Lune was replaced by this new Mediterranean-Italian restaurant and It's owners, of Italian and Turkish descent, are friends from college. The menu is a mix of options from both cuisines with dishes like Greek chicken and Grappa Ravioli as well as baklava and tiramisu for dessert.

Seattle, What's Happening?

Fat Tuesday, 2/9 - Toulouse Petit is taking Fat Tuesday to another level with Market Street Dixieland Jazz Band and DJ Shardawn bringing the music vibes all night long. So dust off those Mardi Gras beads and masks and join the celebration.

Valentine's Day dinners, 2/14 - Restaurants all over Seattle have special menus for Valentine's day that range from breaking the bank to relatively affordable. Usually the V-day menus have lots of chocolate and wine parings, but this year the theme seems to be variations of one of the most aphrodisiac food, oysters.

Mobile food rodeo Round #3, 2/14 - If you're a food lover, what better way to celebrate Valentine's day than with the third food truck rodeo at the Fremont Market.

What would you do for the love of food? Do you have any big plans for Valentine's day?
