TMA Mondays: All is good
TMA'ed while playing At Night by Mnek
All seems to be good in the neighborhood regarding food. Maybe it has something to do with everyone being indoors either escaping the rain or at bars for Seattle Beer Week. Yesterday was McDonald's 76th birthday and Ronald sure looks good for being 76 years old. Amazon is busy taking over the world one food venture at a time. If grocery and restaurant delivery wasn’t enough, they will also be delivering blue apron style meals. Oh and casually plan to have their own housed brand of snacks. Speaking of brands, Starbucks is bringing mini fraps back for a limited time with a new waffle cone flavor.
Our Pick of the Week
Tortas Condesa, Capitol Hill - This was one of the first places we reviewed for the blog and I was reminded how much I loved it when I had it last week. It hit the spot and I love that it’s one of the few places opened past midnight around the city. If you need a way to satisfy those late night hunger pains, tortas is the way to go.
Mangos - After watermelon, mangoes are my favorite fruit. My world was changed this weekend when I had drool worthy flan cake with chunks of mango on top at Joule. I couldn't find a recipe that would do Joule's creation justice, but this mango cheesecake flan sounds just as good.
New Sh*t in Town
Mura, Magnolia - Their menu based on Japanese and Korean comfort food caught my attention instantly. They opened recently and are on my list of places to try.
Verjus, Bainbridge Island - Once Verjus opens on May 20th, Ice cream from Mora won't be the only reason to head to Bainbridge. This restaurant is the perfect way to start/get on that health grind with their rainbow colored juices and their vegetarian dishes.
Il Corvo Pasta Studio, Pioneer Square - If pasta is your go-to for a quick meal, you can now take it up a notch on the bougie scale. On May 30th, the studio is having its grand opening for it's retail shop.
Dot's Butcher and Deli, Pike Place - Yes this is a homage to the Dot's Charcuterie and Bistrot that closed in Fremont Summer of 2014. I say homage because although it is the same owner, the place will be more of a butcher shop than a restaurant.
Seattle, What's Happening?
Free Scoop Day, 5/19 - Cupcake Royale's all across the city will be offering a free scoop of ice cream made with fresh dairy from Meadowsweet Dairy. Let's hope Thursday is a hot 80 degree day so we can enjoy cooling down with free ice cream to the fullest.
University District Street Fair, 05/21-05/22 - While Portland has more of a street fair scene, this is the longest running street fair nationwide. As in this is the 47th one, almost half a century, with the best of local food, music, and art in attendance.
United Way’s Third Annual All-Star Softball Classic, 5/22 - You are probably thinking, what does a softball charity game have to do with food? Well one of the All-Stars is Ethan Stowell and also good ole baseball food. Support youth and young adults in the greater Seattle area and find out if Chef Stowell is as good on the field as he is in the kitchen.
