Who knew Seattle could ever get so much snow in the city? It surprised the hell out of me, and I'm good with going back to the rainy days.

This week, my mind was blown to find out the Roy Street Café in Caphill is actually owned by Starbucks and on top of that they are deciding to close down this faux trendy café on April 28th. For 10 years we've been duped, or at least I have, into thinking this was actually just a local coffee shop and not Starbucks way of testing stuff they can't in their cookie cutter stores.

Certain restaurants/fast food joints are on the chopping block as part of the SeaTac Airport renovations. Burger king, Sbarro, Wolfgang puck express and more are getting replaced by newer, local Seattle options.

Lastly, Tortas Condesa, the Mexican torta window style joint that replaced Kedai Mekan's previous home, is closing at the end of this month. It was one of my favorite places to eat in Caphill, I'm sad it will no longer be there to fulfill my craving for savory sandwiches.


Our pick of the week

Tilikum Place Café - My husband and I love bringing others here for brunch. Their baked eggs, savory tart and classic Dutch baby are one of our favorite dishes in Seattle. The only problem we have to plan far in advance so we can get reservations.

No-bake Protein balls - Protein balls are my new snack obsession. I've been on the hunt for easy recipes to meal prep with so I can have them ready to take with me to work every day. My favorite are the ones that use oats as the their base, like this one.

New sh*t in town

Chi Mac, Bellevue - Korean Fried chicken restaurant in Udistrict is planning on expanding to Bellevue near the Factoria area. Don't worry they won't being close their first place.

Lady Yum, Pioneer Square - The famous local macaron shop is growing and opening a new even bigger store in Pioneer Square.

Kelly Cannoli, Lake City -  Kelly Wilson aka Kelly Cannoli recently opened a roadside Cannoli stand providing Seattleites a taste of the cannolis sold in New York's little Italy.

World Famous Coconut Pie Class, 2/21 - Have you ever had the coconut pie at any of the Tom Douglas restaurants? Either way this your chance to learn how to make it at home through this hands on workshop at the Hot Stove Society.

Alki Winter Food Truck Festival, 2/23 - A winter beach party to support a good cause, Special Olympics Seattle Org. This was originally planned for February 9th, but rescheduled because of the snowmageddon. So if you didn't know about it before, you still have the opportunity to eat brunch on the beach and participate in getting the Guinness world record for the largest polar plunge ever.

Seattle Cake Con, 2/24 - if you love cake, love baking, or just have a sweet tooth this event was created with you in mind. Spend your day trying all the sweet samples from each of the exhibitors.
