TMA Mondays: Fasting Foodie
Fasting (aka no eating or drinking) for 18 hours hasn't been the most difficult thing to get used to.
What’s harder is accepting the fact that Cederberg Tea house is closing. To console all the fans and Malva pudding addicts, they have put together a recipe book.
While one door closes, a very different door opens. Jacks bbq is opening a location in Columbia city tower mid-summer and then a SLU location in the fall.
Our Pick of the Week
Naan n Curry, Issaquah - The thing I miss most during Ramadan is my grandma and mom's Pakistani cooking, but Naan n Curry has been solid in feeding that desire. I've had it twice this Ramadan.
Suhoor smoothie - Buzzfeed came has some great recipes for eating substantial food at Suhoor ( the meal before starting your fast). Only 10 days of Ramadan are left, and the fasts keep getting longer so quick suhoor options are clutch.
New Sh*t in Town
Koku, Queen Anne - Cederberg's home won't stay vacant for long, on June 19th a Japanese café and market will take its place. In honor of Cederberg they will continue serving rooibos lattes and red espresso drinks. I'm excited for a DC native to find a home in Seattle the same way I did, through food.
South Town Pie, Queen Anne - There can never be too much pizza, especially thin crust New York style. The vibe is throwback and the menu is creative.
Willmott's Ghost, Denny Triangle - Renee Erickson is opening an Italian restaurant inside the spheres that will actually be open to the public unlike her donut shop General Porpoise which is only available to amazon employees and guests they let in.
Seattle, What's Happening?
Cycle dog 1 year Truck-a-versary, 6/8 - Cycle dogs is celebrating 1 year of serving some of the best vegan dogs in Seattle from a food truck. They have different special for everyday this weekend, starting with Vegan Big Mac on Friday, followed by Dad Bod dog on Saturday, and closing off with an all you can eat pancake brunch.
Strawberry Festival at the South Bay Grange, 6/9 - This is a bit far, but what better way to spend a weekend then attending the 82nd year of the strawberry festival in Olympia WA.
Iftar Sunset dinner at Cuidad, 6/11 - Cuidad is hosting a sunset dinner to celebrate Ramadan. They will be serving multiple courses of Middle eastern/North African inspired halal dishes. Proceeds from the dinner will be donated to Wasat an organization that lets people connect and explore American Muslim art and culture.
