TMA Mondays: Eat Food, Do Good

We have a few expansions and changes to report this week. First, 85C bakery is opening a second Washington location at Alderwood mall. Expect very long lines.

Navy Strength tiki bar now has a coffee and juice shop next door, cleverly named Navy Strength Coffee and Juice. Hours are currently limited, but now you have one more place to get your caffeine fix.

Bar Sue's kitchen has a new tenant by the name of Tacos de la Noche. They'll be serving tacos and tortas to Bar Sue's late-night crowd.

Lastly, Farestart's expansion with aid from Amazon has begun. Their first restaurant opened its doors last week and is called Community Table and serves barbeque. Rise also opened last week and will focus more on non-alcoholic drinks, pastries, sandwiches and the like. Maslow's which is expected to open this week will be a full-service restaurant serving lunch, dinner and happy hour. Check them all out!

Pam's Kitchen, Wallingford - Pam's Kitchen in SLU may have closed,  but their Wallingford location is still open and thriving. You need to schedule a visit there and get some of their coconut fried bread, pelau and of course, jerk chicken!

New Sh*t in Town

Lan Hue, International District - Lan Hue is a new made-from-scratch sandwich shop in the international district. Made-from-scratch means they make their bologna, mayo and even their baguettes. Their menu includes 17 sandwich options, split into Paris, Seattle and Saigon categories. They are open every day from 9-8pm and while they may not have a site yet, their yelp page has all the details.

Opus Co., Phinney Ridge - Expected in April, Opus Co. officially opens this week on the 26th. They are keeping the tradition of meat alive at the location which formerly housed Martino's. Their meat comes from a whole animal program and the menu will consist of both large and small plates meant for mixing and matching. You definitely want to visit on an empty stomach. Also, if you love pickled things, Opus Co. is the place for you.

Gather Kitchen and Bar, Ballard - Come August, there will be a new addition to the Ballard neighborhood. Gather Kitchen and Bar will be all about bringing people together around food. They are inspired by travel and family gatherings, so their menu is family style, which encourages sharing. The menu has a range of items from vegetarian to meatatarian so there is something for everyone. Look out for them in August.

 

Seattle, What's Happening?

Chow Down, 07/29 - For one night only, Columbia and Hillman city will be hosting a sampling event where participants will get to taste a wide array of food and drinks from restaurants and breweries in the neighborhoods. For $50, participants will get a "passport" that will grant them access to over 20 restaurants. 100% of the proceeds will go to Rainier Valley Food Bank, so get your passports and start eating!

Ice Cream social Pop-Up,  07/29 - This weekend at the South Lake Union Saturday market, there will be an Ice Cream social featuring Seattle's favorite ice cream shops, mobile creameries and booths. Admission is free and you can expect vendors like Street treats, Susu Thai Ice cream, Full Tilt ice cream and more.

Mkt "Pig Roast" Pig Roast, 07/31 - Chef Alvin Go and the Mkt. crew are putting on a summertime pig roast featuring meat from Olsen Farms on Monday, July 31. The meal will include tons of great porky dishes plus a stellar cherry dessert to top it all off. There will be two seatings: one at 5:30pm and one at 8pm, and the meal is $40/person—call the restaurant at 206.812.1580 to save a spot.-
