TMA Mondays: Happy Halloween

TMA'ed while jamming to Let Me Know by Maleek Berry

Happy Halloween fellow Seattlelites!! In the spirit of Halloween, we have our very own version of trick or treat.

The Tricks: A la Bonne Franquette is closing its doors this week, followed by the Seattle location of Old Spaghetti Factory in December. Both will be major losses to the Seattle food scene.

The Treats: Uwajimaya is opening Kai Market in SLU. It's a spin-off of the local grocery chain and will sell local and international products as well as to-go seafood items. Mutsuko Soma is back from maternity leave and while her and her Soba skills are not returning to Miyabi 45th, she will be hosting a pop-up at Kraken Congee on November 6th. Lastly, popular Portland ice cream shop, Salt & Straw has two more Seattle pop-ups in the works. One of them is this week, Nov 4th, 11am at Home Remedy.

Our Pick of The Week

John Howie Steak, Bellevue - A fancy place that doesn’t serve you fancy portions. Their lunch menu is pretty affordable a.k.a. average Seattle restaurant price range. Their Juicy Lucy burger got voted best burger in Washington state last year. It's a mighty tower of a burger, so if you're going to order it, come very very hungry.

Spaghetti - Sometimes I don’t have time to prepare an intricate meal and when that happens I end up either eating out or sleeping hungry. The struggle is real. This one pot pasta recipe by spoon fork bacon is just what I need. Easy and quick. Hopefully it's just what you need too.

New Sh*t In Town

Feed Co. Burgers, Central District - Feed Co. Burgers in Redmond already has a sister. The new Feed Co. location officially opened this past weekend in the Central District. Their lamb, bison and pork options which are fixtures in their Redmond location, will be specials in their new Seattle location, but that just means there will be more opportunities for delicious additions to the menu such as braised short rib.

New Luck Toy, West Seattle - West Seattle has so many new kids on the block we cant even keep up. Joining the party is New Luck Toy a 21 and over establishment that will be serving Americanized Chinese food and slushies. They'll also have karoake and pinball machines to keep you there all night. It's a collaboration between Mark Fuller (Ma'ono chef and owner)  and Patrick Gabre-Kidan (Rhino Room partner), and its name is an homage to a 60-year old neighborhood fixture that once stood on the same street.

Seattle. What's Happening?

Día de los Muertos Celebration , 11/01 - On November 1st, Casco Antiguo will be celebrating Día de los Muertos all day long. The festivities will include food, drinks and live music. Don’t miss it.

Chef Showdown: Ethan Stowell vs Joe Ritchie, 11/03 - Like the event name says, Ethan Stowell and Joe Rotchie will go dish to dish in this ultimate chef showdown. You might get to decide who wins, but we all know the true winner is you and your taste buds.

Dine Around Seattle, 11/06-11/23 - Not to be confused with Seattle Restaurant Week, Dine Around Seattle is another opportunity to try some of the best food Seattle has to offer for a fixed price. In addition, for every reservation made through the Dine Around Seattle site, a donation will be given to the Rainier Valley Food Bank.
